Priya

PRIYA [pronounced PREE-YAH] is an absolutely adorable MUTED TORTOISESHELL BRITISH SHORTHAIR. It is impossible not to smile when looking at Priya. She is 3 years old, spayed, has claws, and weighs 12 lbs. Priya came to SPCR when her family was no longer able to care for her.

Priya is a laid-back, gentle lady who likes to sit quietly and observe. She is not the type of cat who is constantly in the mix, but she will play with catnip toys or a wand toy. She visits various foster family members during the night to wake them up by jumping on the bed, but does not stay long. When she’s in her carrier in the car or at the vet, she has a lot to say and chatters constantly at anyone who will listen. At home, she’s less vocal but does meow hello when she’s looking for attention or pets. Like most cats, she tries to curl up on her foster mom’s laptop right when it’s time to work.

She does not like large dogs but might be fine with a small, indifferent dog, because she lived with one in her last home. She is also fine with other cats, so long as she is properly introduced. She generally is uncomfortable being held, but allows it if you’re slow and cautious and hold her so she feels secure. She will sit on your lap as long as she’s being petted and her favorite thing is being brushed! Although she has short hair, her coat is extremely thick and will require frequent grooming to help her keep it soft and keep the shedding under control. She is fine with kids.

Priya is up to date on her vaccines, but will need a dental within the next few years. The vet would also like to see Priya lose 2 lbs to reach a healthier weight and has a plan for that, but Priya’s adopter would be responsible for following through.
