Sophia

SOPHIA is a gorgeous green-eyed, blue silver TORBIE MAINE COON with silky, fur that sheds little. At 6 years of age and 17 lbs, she is mature and the biggest cat (not the heaviest) this fosterer has ever hosted…even among Maine Coons.  She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative, has her claws and is microchipped.  Sophia is a perfect example of her breed in that she is long, very tall, and has large ears that are tufted to a high point.

Sophia is highly interactive, follows her humans everywhere in the house, makes eye contact all the time, and chirps quietly when she asks for something…such as her wet food.  Sophia does not scream or demand anything.  That said, she could help herself because she can leap to countertops silently with ease so her human family must keep things put away.  Further, she arrived to foster care already knowing how to open cabinet doors.  She doesn’t do it often, mainly when she is bored or curious about something.  Sophia drinks a fair bit of water and is accustomed to enjoying it fresh from a sink faucet.

Sophia is fastidious about keeping herself clean and tolerates having her claws trimmed.  Her fur is very soft and not yet long after she had been trimmed prior to arriving.  An adopter must be experienced with the grooming needs of long-haired cats.  She isn’t a lap cat, but enjoys laying beside your leg.

Sophia came to SPCR as a surrender by someone who loved her but could no longer care for her.  She wasn’t eating well upon arrival to foster care but improved greatly after receiving a dental with extractions.  As Sophie is a timid cat, she may lose her appetite again when adopted but will likely regain it as she gains confidence in her new environment.  Sophia will snack on some Royal Canin dry food, but she really enjoys her canned food of flaked fish.  She wouldn’t touch TikiCat’s canned chicken flavor but readily ate a few bites of chicken breast the humans were having for dinner.  She has also enjoyed Churu treats.

Sophia is not aggressive to other cats, nor does she want a cat being aggressive to her.  She would do best with a laid-back cat who will not chase her, even if that cat were just playing.  Sophia would prefer to not live with a dog at all nor would she prefer to live with children younger than 12 yrs.
