Ripley

RIPLEY is a gorgeous male BLACK AND WHITE BICOLOR SPHYNX. He is neutered and has all of his claws. He is 10 years old.  He is up to date on shots, FIV/FeLV negative, and is microchipped. He does wonderfully with his litter box as well. He has had a senior blood panel and everything looked great for his age.

Ripley is a VERY nice boy who can mostly be found hanging out under the covers. If you are looking for a snuggle buddy, he is your guy! His favorite thing is when he hears his foster mom coming then he runs over and shows her his belly. Yes, he does love pets there too. He likes to show off by rolling around and purring when you give him pets.

He is currently rooming with another foster cat and does just fine. He has been exposed to and previously lived with dogs as well. Ripley would do best with older children (8+) who understand boundaries. He does well in new locations and loves to explore his space.

He is overall not a vocal cat unless you are wiping him down for bathing or handling him for medical care. He will let you know about his displeasure vocally, but is a cooperative gentleman.

Ripley is listed as special needs due to his mild hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). At this time, he has left atrial enlargement, but does not require medication at this point until there is further enlargement seen. The left ventricle is unable to relax and distend normally. The ventricle cannot accept a normal volume of blood from the left atrium (upper chamber). Over time, the left atrium can become dilated in order to accommodate the increased retained blood volume within the heart. His bloodwork did show an elevated proBNP of 934. HCM is a variable disease with some cats remaining quite static and others progressing faster. Subsequent follow-up echocardiograms will help monitor progression and better determine the long-term prognosis.

Due to his heart condition, he will need to be seen by a cardiologist again in 6 months, and will be ongoing for the duration of his life. Additionally, he may eventually require a dental, but due to his heart condition, at this time, the foster’s vet has determined that it would be best to hold off on this until there is more of a need to do this procedure.

Ripley will only be considered for SPHYNX/REX EXPERIENCED FAMILIES ONLY due to his special needs.
