Odie

ODIE is a charming BLACK BRITISH SHORTHAIR with golden eyes. He is 8 years old, neutered, has his claws, is up to date on vaccinations, and FIV/FeLV negative. This very big boy weighs 24 lbs.

Odie came into rescue when his previous owner’s situation changed and she could no longer take care of him.

Odie’s foster mom loves fostering British Shorthair cats. This breed is just so sweet and easy going. When Odie hears his foster mom, he ambles over for a greeting, vocalizes with some cute meows, and enjoys body and face rubs. Occasionally he will roll over to expose his belly for some rubs.

This adorable boy enjoys being around people, but also likes some quiet time all by himself. He is not the definition of a play monster as far as his foster mom can tell, rather just a very chill cat.

Odie has lived with another cat before so we know he is cat friendly, but he would probably do even better as a single cat where he can soak up the undivided love and attention from his human(s). He would probably be okay with a cat friendly dog who would ignore him. Older children should be fine for him.

During his vet visit it was discussed that Odie definitely needs to lose weight, but it has to be done very gradually over a period of 6-12 months. The vet feels that around 18-20 lbs. would be a more ideal weight for him. There has been lots of research done on the benefits of a wet food diet for cats (lower in calories and better for proper hydration), so his foster mom has added some wet food to the dry prescription diet (which will be sent home with him) to help with a gradual weight reduction.

Odie is looking for a home where his new parent(s) will be committed to helping him achieve a more slender body over time, but with the understanding and perhaps even experience that weight loss for a cat has do be done properly and slowly (i.e., you can’t just starve the cat to achieve rapid weight loss).

Odie had a senior wellness exam and is using his litter box appropriately.
