Bryson
BRYSON is a gorgeous BLUE BICOLOR RAGDOLL with light blue eyes. He is almost 4 years old, neutered, front-paw declawed, up to date on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative, and microchipped. This big boy weighs around 14 lbs.
Bryson came to SPCR after he was left at a shelter. According to his paperwork, he was purchased from a breeder. The owner surrendered him to the shelter after a relative moved in who is allergic to cats.
When Bryson first came into foster care, he was quite reserved and shy, but he now saunters over when he sees his foster mom. He then does the famous Ragdoll flop while making air biscuits – it’s very cute and endearing to watch. He will expose his belly but caution is advised since it is NOT necessarily an invitation for belly rubs. It may “reward” the unsuspecting victim with a nip from his sharp little teeth!
Bryson enjoys being petted around his head and he is tolerant of being brushed. However, his foster mom has noticed that there are some parts on his body that he doesn’t care to have touched, at least not for long or repeatedly. When this type of overstimulation happens to him, he will express his displeasure by trying to nip, so you want to learn his cues. We see this more often in cats that have been declawed and want to make sure his future family is made aware of this. Because they have lost their primary defense mechanism, declawed cats often resort to nipping to express fear, pain, or dissatisfaction. We certainly cannot blame them for this, since they didn’t ask to have the last bone of each toe amputated.
For the most part, Bryson is a non intrusive, lower-energy chap who is content sitting on the cat tree, looking out of a window to see if he can spot some birds, or hanging out under the coffee table. His inner play monster comes to life when his foster mom swishes DaBird around for him. He jumps up high in the air to catch the flying object. His foster mom feels it is essential for him to get these daily play sessions to keep him stimulated. When his foster mom is in close vicinity, Bryson typically likes to be close by, though not on her lap.
Bryson will need some time to adjust and will need someone who is familiar with and tolerant of the body language of a cat. His ideal home is with someone who enjoys the natural beauty and grace that a cat possesses, and being okay with a less needy cat. His paperwork stated that he lived with cats and a dog before. His foster mom tested him with her male DSH, but that introduction didn’t go so well. Therefore a new and permanent home with a similar breed of cat (Ragdoll, Birman or Himalayan) should be okay for him, of course with proper and slow introductions. A cat friendly dog who ignores him should be okay for him since he has lived with one before.
Older cat savvy children should be fine for him, but no young children since they may not understand his cues.
He eats both freeze-dried raw and wet food and is using his litter box perfectly.
