Sabrina
SABRINA is a pretty SEAL POINT RAGDOLL with blue eyes. She is 5 years old, spayed, front-paw clawed, is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and FeLV/FIV negative. She weighs around 10 lbs.
Sabrina came to us from a shelter where she spent about two months. She was very frightened there and would hiss at any of the potential adopters so the shelter asked us to take her.
When Sabrina first came into foster care, she “greeted” her foster mom with hisses and swats if her foster mom tried to get too close to her. Her foster mom suspects that hissing is just part of her way of communicating and shrugs it off and it has subsided considerably. In order to establish a trusting relationship with Sabrina, the foster mom started offering her lickable treats that Sabrina licks from her fingers, and she also likes to eat freeze-dried treats that the foster mom offers by hand.
Sabrina will need to be adopted by a very patient and understanding adopter. Preferably someone who has experience with cats that may have encountered some trauma in their lives. While Sabrina comes out to greet her foster mom and allows to be petted and brushed, she is still unsure at times when her foster mom overdoes the loving or the brushing.
When that happens, she can become spicy and will express her displeasure by trying to nip, so you want to learn her cues. We see this more often in cats that have been declawed and want to make sure her future family is made aware of this. Because they have lost their primary defense mechanism, declawed cats often resort to biting to express fear, pain, or dissatisfaction. We certainly cannot blame them for this, since they didn’t ask to have the last bone of each toe amputated.
On the positive side, Sabrina enjoys some interaction with the wand toy when her foster mom swishes it around for her to catch. Other than that, she is a low-key lady that enjoys hanging out close by but doesn’t need the constant entertainment or engagement by a human. She is very quiet (well, aside from the occasional hissing part 😉 and would make a perfect companion for someone who enjoys watching a graceful, fluffy feline floating around their home.
While Sabrina has seen other cats in the foster home and doesn’t seem to be too reactive, her foster mom thinks she would do best as an only cat. However, we would consider a home that has a very non-aggressive cat that would leave her alone. Her foster parents don’t have dogs, but perhaps a gentle dog who loves kitties might be fine for her. No young children for her.
Sabrina is eating both wet and dry food. She loves her wet food and we encourage more wet than dry because it provides proper hydration and will also help keep her coat soft and silky. Therefore, we would like to find her a home that will continue to provide it. She is using her litter box perfectly.
