Bowie

BOWIE is a rare, solid WHITE MAINE COON with bi-colored eyes of one blue eye and one yellow eye.  While it is reported this combination (caused by the White Masking Gene) can cause deafness in one ear (the side with the blue eye), there has been no evidence of this in Bowie.  He has long, white fur with a large fluffy tail.  At 2 years of age and 14 lbs, he is like an awkward teenager who is big and not yet done growing!  He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative, has his claws and is microchipped.

Bowie is a perfect example of his breed in that his body is very long, tall, and he has large ears that are tufted to a high point. His fur is thick on his flanks, under his belly, and his tail is super fluffy! Bowie was very tolerant to have some matting trimmed away over several grooming sessions and he loves to be combed.  He will lay down beside you and roll over to make sure you comb his belly too.  Bowie is very interactive and loves to be with people all the time!  He comes trotting over when you open the door and follows you to every room.  He is very affectionate and likes to make eye contact, head butt and lay beside your leg for pets and combing.  Bowie’s meow sounds like a kitten as he talks back and forth with his humans.

Bowie came to SPCR as a surrender from someone who purchased him from a breeder and dearly loved him but recognized the other household pets made it difficult for Bowie to be happy.  Bowie received great care and high quality food such that he is a healthy boy.  He was eating Orijen and Blue Buffalo Wilderness and is now eating Royal Canin.  He has also been enjoying some flaked fish canned food and Churu.

Bowie is very sweet kitty who seems to be learning about wand toys and jingle bell balls now that he isn’t afraid of bullying cats nor of the rattling of a dog’s collar.  Interactive play is already building his confidence as he catches DaBird on a wand.  He uses the sisal scratching posts on his towers and enjoys climbing to high places on the towers and on top of a bookcase that is accessible through a series of jumps.

Bowie is not aggressive to other cats, nor does he want a cat being aggressive to him.  He would do best in a house with no other pets while he continues to develop his confidence or with a laid-back cat.  Bowie cannot be placed in a home with a dog.  Bowie would be fine with children, over age 3, who have been taught to be respectful of a cat’s behaviors and needs.
