Sasha

SASHA is an exquisite TABBY SIBERIAN with green eyes. He is 1.5 years old, neutered, 2-paw declawed, up to date on vaccinations, and FIV/FeLV negative. He weighs around 12 lbs.

Sasha came into our rescue when his owners realized that their young children created a very stressful situation for Sasha, so they surrendered him to us. His foster mom was only too happy to take him into foster care. While looking at his picture already melted her heart, as soon as she met him she realized just what a special, precious and adorable boy he is.

Sasha’s foster mom is completely enamored with this sweet, soft and gentle boy. There is not a lot in life that is more adorable and endearing than being greeted by a fluffy and oh so special kitty when he hears his foster mom enter the foster space. Typically after some loving where a currently shaved belly gets exposed for some rubs (he had some tight mats that our vet removed), it’s time for some brushing which he tolerates quite well. Sasha’s coat needs to be brushed on a daily basis, preferably a couple of times a day, so his foster mom is requesting a home where there is a dedicated human who has the time, skill, and proper tools to provide him with that basic necessity.

When it’s time to engage in some play time, Sasha really enjoys it when his foster mom swishes a mink wand toy or DaBird around for him to catch. He shows off his hunting prowess by jumping up very high in the air to catch whatever is floating around. It is delightful to watch his athleticism and excitement. Since this is such good exercise and stimulation for him, his best home is with someone who is willing to engage in this type of interaction a few times a day.

He makes a cozy lap warmer when his foster mom lies down for a nap, and when she watches some TV, he will often curl himself into her arms like a baby for a while. His foster mom would really like to find a person who wants to have a kitty that seeks some closeness with their humans.

Although Sasha was kept as a single cat before, the Siberian breed is known to typically get along very well with other pets. Sasha roomed together with another male foster cat without any issues. He has met his foster parent’s own kitties and is very respectful and doesn’t show any tendency to become aggressive towards them. Therefore a home with maximum one easy going, non domineering cat should work well for him. However, he can also easily be an only kitty so he can get undivided attention from a loving pet parent.

Because of the fact that he is declawed, which leaves him somewhat defenseless, we feel he will do better in a home that doesn’t have any dogs, but would consider a dog that is known to be very cat friendly. As stated already, he will not do well in a household with young children (now or in the future), or an overly active household. An adult-only and quiet home would be ideal for him.

Since Sasha is a Siberian cat, we are anticipating that some applications will come in for him from people who have read that Siberian cats are hypoallergenic.  No breed is actually hypoallergenic. People are most commonly allergic to the Fel d 1 protein which is found in cat saliva. As all cats make saliva, all cats can cause an allergic reaction. So please be aware that we do not claim that any of our rescue cats are hypoallergenic, including Sasha.

Sasha is currently eating predominantly wet food which he loves and it is healthier for him because it provides proper hydration for his urinary tract and will also help keep his coat soft and silky. This article explains very well why wet food is so important for our feline companions: www.catinfo.org. Therefore, we would like to find him a home that will continue to offer it. He is using his litter box perfectly.
