River
RIVER is a LILAC PERSIAN who has beautiful round, copper eyes. She is a young girl at age 3 years and petite at 7.8 lbs. River is spayed, negative for FIV/FeLV, has her claws, updated on vaccinations and microchipped. She has a traditional flat face, but is fortunate that her nose and eyes do not weep a great deal such she doesn’t require as frequent cleanings. Even though she is petite, she is a great jumper and enjoys perching in high places such as on cat towers, book shelves, and windowsills.
River is an avid birder who entertains her humans by chattering at the birds on the deck and in the nearby trees. Not surprisingly, she enjoys when a human plays with her using DaBird wand toy with guinea feathers. She also entertains herself with bouts of the zoomies, racing through the house and sliding on the hardwood and bunching up the rug. She sharpens her claws appropriately on the sisal towers and on the durable Waterhog rugs by each door.
River uses her voice sparingly, to meow when you pick her up, to purr when you hold her, to hiss when an unfamiliar cat approaches, and to talk to the birds. She is still concerned when a hand approaches until she realizes it isn’t there to grab her, but to coax her on her own free will. She will then turn her body to the side and invite pettings. River will hiss at a cat who is being too forward and does not run away to create a target of herself. She has been relatively easy to integrate with other cats in the house. Her love of Churu is the perfect motivator to draw her in to humans and cats alike.
Upon arrival, River was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis which was a result of being stressed in a home with multiple dogs and small children. After one week in foster care with neither stressor and a diet of prescription food, she relaxed and her symptoms were resolved. An adopter will only be considered if the home has neither dogs nor children under 12 years of age. It is not yet clear how much maintenance her coat will require as her cottony fur was cut short, yet we can assume that she will require frequent grooming as all Persian kitties do.
River not only prefers, but requires a calm household. She needs to remain on prescription food for at least a month after adoption, but could then be transitioned to another high quality, dry food (her preference) based upon her veterinarian’s recommendations.
