Maverick
MAVERICK is a green-eyed, BLUE BICOLOR MAINE COON with silky, long fur that is easy to maintain with weekly combing. At 2 years of age, he is very kittenish with his lack of fear and crazy antics. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative, has his claws and is microchipped.
Maverick is a perfect example of a purebred Maine Coon in that he is very long, tall, and has large ears that are tufted to a high point. He is very sweet, affectionate with head bumps and loves to be petted. He also likes to curl up in your lap. He vocalizes meows, trills, howls and reserves hisses and growls for the carrier and vet office. Although he tells you all about it, he has never made an effort to do more. At home he is an easy keeper who allows me to easily trim his claws.
The flip side is that Maverick is super active, likes to explore, and there isn’t anyplace in this house that he cannot reach. He is smart and once opened the lever door-handle to free himself from the foster room and join the family upstairs. He leaps to every high place effortlessly. When corrected, he looks at you with inquisitive eyes as if to ask, “What’s the problem?” He would like his new home to have a lot of safe space to run and play.
Maverick came to SPCR as a surrender by someone who took him in from an online ad. He arrived clinically underweight and has gained 3 lbs in just over 3 weeks. In his checkup today, he has reached his minimum ideal weight of at least 14.5 lbs. Maverick will eat some dry food, but he is highly motivated towards wet food. He will nudge another cat away from wet food, but will also allow someone to nudge him out of his own. Food management will be required in a home that has other pets.
Maverick gets along well with other calm and confident cats. He would do fine with a passive, small to medium sized dog. A home with few pets would better suit him than a home with four or more. It does seem that he would do well with children age 8 or older.
