Keiko

KEIKO is a blue-eyed, approx. 4 to 5 year old, SEAL POINT HIMALAYAN. She is FeLV/FIV negative, spayed, and microchipped. Upon arrival to foster care, Keiko tried to make herself small and unnoticeable which wasn’t difficult at 7 lbs.  She had been shaved to remove severe matting and took comfort in her heated bedding.  Keiko’s progress has been a joy to see her overcome her fears.

Instead of cowering at the sight of human hands, she now arches towards them to be stroked and petted. She might still bat her eyes with nervousness until she remembers that hands bring everything that is good and wonderful. She loves canned food and especially Churu that was used to encourage eating for several weeks. She has been witnessed eating dry food, but she would rather the humans not be aware of this.

With Keiko’s increasing comfort in her environment so has her self-confidence increased. She climbs up to the window sill to watch the outdoor birds and thoroughly enjoys her catnip banana.  She and her feline housemates run and play the entire length of the basement and bedroom.  All 3 are funny in that they “over jump” their target which looks exaggerated and comical. Keiko, in particular, runs like a deer with her two front legs followed by two back legs in leaps and bounds. She is still learning what toys are as she is very interested in DaBird but also spooked a bit. An adopter will get to help Keiko expand her horizons through more toys and confidence-building play.

Through her journey, Keiko has become super lovey. When a human sits on the sofa, she seeks their attention to get petted, to walk back and forth across their lap, to rub her face against their head and face, to flop onto their leg. Such a tremendous amount of progress and to show that she really wants to be loved and cherished.

Keiko is healthy, growing happier every day, and a litter box pro. She may not be lovey towards other cats, but can readily cohabitate. It is unknown if she has ever met a dog, but her personality suggests it would not go well as she would go into hiding. Keiko would not do well with children.
