If you are looking for a magnificent, larger-than-life companion with a heart of absolute gold, Jayme is your man. At 5 years old and 18 pounds, this handsome BLUE MAINE COON has the classic, majestic “mean mug” look—but don’t let that serious face fool you for a second! Jayme is a total sweetheart whose most forceful action in life is giving you an enthusiastic headbutt to demand more chin scratches and affection. He absolutely loves his people and wants nothing more than to be doted on, pampered and given regular play time. 

Jayme is a retired breeder who has had a bit of a rough road in his short 5 years, and he is an incredibly resilient soul! He has already undergone two FHO (femoral head ostectomy) surgeries prior to coming to SCPR and has fully recovered. Jayme’s current vet (while in foster care) has diagnosed him with severe arthritis, so he is posted as “special needs” as this is a condition that will require lifetime care. Currently, his arthritis is well-managed with monthly pain injections and over-the-counter joint supplements. To help keep him comfortable, it is very important that he maintains a healthy weight—which can be a fun challenge because he is highly food-motivated! And despite his arthritis, he’s still a young man and he enjoys playing with balls, mice, and string toys (his fav!). He also has a spectacular, silky-soft smoke-colored coat that requires regular brushing, which he happily considers part of his royal treatment.

Jayme gets stressed around other animals and needs to be the only pet in the home—no other cats or dogs for this king. However, he would do wonderfully with respectful children who can shower him with the gentle love he deserves. Jayme is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and ready for a quiet, loving sanctuary where he can be the center of someone’s world. If you are willing to give this special boy the care and devotion he needs, he will repay you with a lifetime of unconditional love and gentle headbutts.
