Jax
JAX is a solid, BLACK PERSIAN with beautiful gold eyes. He is 8 years of age and weighs 8.2 lbs. He is up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, is neutered, has his claws and is microchipped in preparation for a new, loving home.
Jax was surrendered by someone who took him into her home when his previous owners moved into assisted living. She couldn’t bear to know the family was going to take him to an animal shelter. After two years, she came to recognize Jax wasn’t living his best life in her home either. Jax is afraid of loud noises and afraid of bully cats and he had to contend with the sources of both of his fears on a regular basis.
Jax enjoys interacting with humans who are soft-spoken whether they are familiar or strangers and whether the humans are male or female. The main factors are voice volume and tone whether he approaches to be petted or retreats. An example is that he darts several steps away when I cough (loud and sharp). He spent most of his previous life in the primary bedroom: to avoid the bully cat during the day, and to enjoy sleeping with his human rescuer at night…sharing her pillow or in the crook of her arm.
Jax allowed his human to trim his fur as needed, to maintain a care-free length that didn’t require daily brushing and avoided matting. He also does well to have his toenails trimmed at home. Typical Persian trait is that his eyes and nose have a bit of drainage but not to the extent that he requires daily cleaning.
Jax has some early onset arthritis and will need supplements of Dasuquin and Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. I’m giving him these supplements in the form of treats and he gobbles them happily. In fact, Jax is highly motivated by other treats as well (Tuna Greenies and Temptations) which is a benefit when you’re developing a relationship and want to reward him. He appropriately uses the sisal surfaces to stretch his tendons using his claws.
Jax is eating Iam’s Proactive Health Hairball Care and Royal Canin Indoor for Long Hair cats. He hasn’t been much interested in canned food. He is highly interested in mowing fresh, Cat Grass!! I’ve never seen a cat consistently interested in the grass, day after day. It grows quickly so moving it out of reach for half a day provides a new opportunity for him to chew it down again!
Jax would likely do well with another cat that isn’t a bully as he is doing well in the foster home with slow introductions. Based upon his aversion to loud noises, an adult-only home without dogs would be his best bet for happily-ever-after.
Jax is being FOSTERED IN SAVOY, IL and his ADOPTION FEE is $50 as a special needs kitty who will require arthritic care.
