Dakota
DAKOTA is a lovely BLUE CLASSIC TABBY SIBERIAN with soft green eyes. She is 6 years old, spayed, has her claws, is up to date on vaccinations, and FIV/FeLV negative. She weighs close to 12 lbs.
Dakota came into our rescue because some of the family members developed allergies. Her foster mom was only too happy to take her into foster care. While looking at her picture already melted her heart, as soon as she met this lovely girl she realized just what a special, precious and adorable girl Dakota is.
Dakota’s foster mom is especially entertained by all the soft thrills and chirps that emanate from this little fluffy lady. While she enjoys being petted and brushed, when she’s had enough fussing over her, she’ll let you know by chirping that it’s all good. It’s as if she is saying “please stop now, otherwise I’ll get irritated”.
She enjoys some interactive play time with a wand toy, likes her catnip mouse, and also chases a laser (according to her former family). Other than that, she is more of a low-key gal and is quite content sitting on her cat window perch looking out to see what is going on.
Dakota was kept as a single cat before, but we were told that she did spend several months with a family friend who had a male DSH and those two got along just fine. She has also met the female Ragdoll that is currently being fostered without any issues. Therefore a home with another easy going, non domineering cat should work well for her, of course with proper introductions. However, she can also easily be an only kitty so she can get undivided attention from a loving pet parent.
Since Dakota is a Siberian cat, we are anticipating that some applications will come in for her from people who have read that Siberian cats are hypoallergenic. No breed is actually hypoallergenic. People are most commonly allergic to the Fel d 1 protein which is found in cat saliva. As all cats make saliva, all cats can cause an allergic reaction. So please be aware that we do not claim that any of our rescue cats are hypoallergenic, including Dakota. And as stated above, her owner had to give her up due to family members becoming allergic to her.
Her foster parents don’t have dogs, but perhaps a gentle dog who loves kitties might be fine for her. Older, cat savvy children will be okay for her.
Dakota is eating both wet and dry food. We encourage more wet than dry because it is healthier for her since it provides proper hydration and will also help keep her coat soft and silky. Therefore, we would like to find her a home that will continue to offer it. She is using her litter box perfectly.
