Colby

COLBY is a super sweet 6-year-old RED AND WHITE DOMESTIC LONGHAIR. He weighs 11 pounds, is neutered and has his claws. There’s not a sweeter kitty anywhere; this boy loves humans and other cats. Colby was surrendered to rescue when his human mom passed away suddenly.

Colby has been delt a rough hand – not only did he suddenly lose his home and everything he knew and loved – but once he arrived in rescue, Colby tested positive for FIV. What is FIV? It stands for “Feline Immunodeficiency Virus,” and to cats, it’s like HIV is to humans. Like HIV, FIV is a manageable disease. Most FIV+ housecats never develop full-blown FIV and the most common cause of death for FIV cats is old age.

Here are Five Reasons You Shouldn’t Fear FIV Cats. [https://www.catster.com/lifestyle/cat-health-tips-shouldnt-fear-fiv-in-cats-feline-immunodeficiency-virus]

FIV is transmitted to other cats through deep bite wounds. Except for the FIV indication, Colby has great bloodwork, and our vet gave him a clean bill of health. What about Colby living with other cats? A recently released long-term study done by Purdue University [click here] found that FIV+ cats living in stable households do not spread the disease to non-FIV cats during normal day-to-day interaction. Colby lived with many FIV-negative cats in his previous home, and is currently rooming with an FIV-negative cat in rescue. However, Colby would certainly be a great addition to a home with other FIV+ resident cats or he would be happy as an only. Colby would likely be fine with a dog who wouldn’t bark or chase him, and kids who would dote on him would be great!

This boy has an easy-care, silky-soft coat that doesn’t mat like kitties with an undercoat, but he does benefit from occasional brushing. That’s great because this boy loves attention and brushing. He also loves his wet food and is asking to go to a home that will give it to him.

Colby is an expert biscuit-maker, loves tummy rubs, and enjoys sunbathing and watching wildlife out the window. He is a gentle boy, a bit on the shy side, but very sweet and cuddly. He will be an absolute delight to his new family, helping them with chores around the house, or just chilling to watch a movie. Like human HIV, we’ve learned a lot about FIV in recent years, and FIV+ kitties are now given the chance to live long lives in loving homes. Colby needs to be kept indoors and given regular vet visits to head off any illness – but we believe that’s how ALL kitties should be treated.

This is your chance to be a hero to a sweetheart and turn Colby’s recent bad luck storm into a rainbow. In turn, you’ll gain a friend for life. Apply for him today! ADOPTION FEE $75. FOSTERED IN PEORIA, IL
