Boone

BOONE is a Stunning Purebred BLUE SMOKE MAINE COON with Amber-Gold colored eyes . He is 15 months old, weighs in around 15+ pounds already. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, tested negative for FeLV/FIV, microchipped and has his claws.

Boone came to SPCR from a home where he was well cared for and loved, but his owner could no longer keep him. It was a very hard decision for them to make as you can imagine……..
Once he arrived at his foster home he adapted quickly to his new surroundings and his foster parents. Those that have or had Maine Coons in their life know that this breed does not mature until they are at least 4 to 5 years old, so he is still very much a kitten, just a Very Big kitten!

Because he is still a kitten Boone likes to play and explore and kitty wrestle and be pet and get attention and be loved and take naps and eat and then repeat all of those things. He always comes to greet his foster mom when she goes into his foster room and then after his breakfast loves to follow his foster mom around their home keeping her company while she does her chores. He especially likes when she is using any of the sinks in their home as he does like running water,  which is a trait of many Maine Coons. He loves to watch the birds and chipmunks and squirrels, and anything happening outside from leaves falling to the neighbors kids playing and will climb up into the cat trees or window ledges available to him to get the best view of his surroundings. He loves playing with cat toys of course, various wand toys and ping pong balls, coiled springs, Yeowww catnip toys, the Mystery Motion automated toy are among his favorites.

Boone does like attention and be pet, especially getting scratches around his cheeks and chin and he will reach out his paw to you if he thinks you’ve stopped to soon with the pets/scratches. He’s not a full on lap boy, but at times may partially lay in your lap while you’re petting him. Most of the time he’ll just sit or lay next to you.  At night he will often choose to sleep either on his foster mom or under the covers next to her until she moves or he gets too warm.

While he is ok with some brushing/combing around his head/ mane,  he is not a fan of brushing/ combing on his hips, belly and under his legs. Because of this, he came in with some tight mats in those areas and so he’s now had his coat groomed into a modified Lion Cut. In the future he will need to see a groomer or your vet to be groomed at least once a year. He is fine being at the vet clinic because he likes the attention. Boone eats both wet and dry food, but really loves his wet food, so we ask that his adopters definitely continue feeding him wet food.  He uses his litter boxes faithfully.

You will often see most rescues (SPCR definitely is one of those) and shelters stress the importance of adopting kittens in pairs or having another playful cat/ kitten already in the home if you are adopting a new kitten. Boone is a prime example of why we stress this. While he had siblings while he was still with the breeder,  he was purchased when he was 3 months old and became an only pet in his new home.  He didn’t have a sibling or another playful young/ young at heart cat that he could kitty wrestle with and continue to learn important kitty play skills from, hence his owner became a surrogate play buddy. His foster mom has worked with him finding appropriate play toys that work with his needs, reading his body language cues, and he has also been slowly  introduced to a couple other cats (currently is doing best with male cats) and he is now again learning acceptable kitty manners.

Because of this, his foster parents are looking for a home for Boone with adopters who have several years of experience with this breed or other large breed cats like Norwegian Forest Cats or Siberians as kittens as well as adults, as he will continue to need direction in kitty manners. He will also need a home where there is at least one playful/tolerant male cat already in the home. He would not be a good fit for small timid cats because of his size and his kitten confidence.
The best home environment for Boone would be one on the quieter side, with someone home most of the time. Not because is has to have attention or supervision all the time, but Maine Coons do like knowing their people are around especially when they are young. No small children for this guy. He should be ok with older, teenagers (16+) that have grown up with large breed cats and know how to read cats body language and would play respectfully with him. He has not been around dogs before, but perhaps would be ok, given a slow introduction, to a laid back dog that has lived with other large breed kittens/cats before.

We don’t see many purebred Maine Coon kittens come into rescue and Boone is an Amazing Maine Coon kitty ❤️ He just needs the right forever home to grow up and old in.
